The Cave is the third single by an English folk band released from their debut album, Sigh No More. The band consists of Marcus Mumford ( vocals, guitar, drums, mandolin), Ben Lovett (vocals, keyboards, accordion, drums), “Country” Winston Marshall (vocals, banjo, dobro), and Ted Dwane (vocals, string bass, drums, guitar). The band formed in October 2007, rising out of what some in the media labelled the “West London folk scene” with other artists such as Laura Marling,  Johnny Flynn and Noah and the Whale. It was released in the UK on 1 March 2010. It placed 81 in Triple J Hottest 100, 2009 before the single had been released. It was the second single in the US, after “Little Lion Man”.”The Cave” first entered the Australian Singles Chart on 12 February 2010, almost a month before its release. The song has currently peaked at number 31 making it Mumford & Sons’s second single to make an impact on the Australian Singles Chart. The cave first entered the UK Singles Chart on February 2010, at #88. The following week, the single climbed eighteen places to #70 and then climbed a further 7 to #63. The single then climbed to #51, and on 7 March 2010, following the physical release of “The Cave”, the single climbed to #37, making it Mumford & Sons second top 40 hit in the UK. Despite climbing to a peak of #26 on the UK iTunes chart, the single remained at a fixed position of #37 for three weeks. On 28 March 2010, the single climbed five places to #32, where it remained for two weeks. On April 11 2010, the single climbed one place to a current peak of #31.
