The Band Perry is the self titled debut album of the American country music group The Band Perry. It was released on October 12, 2010 via Universal Republic Nashville Records. The album includes five songs from the  band’s digital EP The band Perry EP, which was released in April 2010. The group is composed of Kimberly  Perry (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano) and her two brothers: Reid Perry (bass guitar, background vocals) and Neil Perry (mandolin, drums, accordion, background vocals). The group signed to Republic Nashville in August 2009 and has released three singles: “Hip to My Heart” (November 2009), “If I Die Young” (June 2010), and “You Lie” (January 2011). All three songs are included on the band’s self-titled debut album, released October 12, 2010. “If I Die Young” reached number one on the Hot Country Songs charts and has been certified platinum. The Band Perry was discovered by Garth Brooks’ manager Bob Doyle, who helped them make recordings. The recordings were sent to Scott Borchetta, head of the newly-established Republic Nashville label. The band signed to Republic Nashville in August 2009 and released their debut single “Hip to My Heart”. All three members wrote it with Brett Beavers. The song peaked at number 20 on the country chart. A self-titled extended play followed in April. Country Weekly reviewer Jessica Phillips said that the album was “more introspective and engrossing than typical radio fare”, and praised Kimberly’s “unpolished” voice, but thought that some songs had “aimless” lyrics. She also gave it three stars out of five. Also giving it a positive review, Michael McCall of the Associated Press compared the band favorably to Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum, and said that the album’s “emphasis is on easygoing, back-porch music.” The album debuted at #4 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart upon its release. It sold 53,000 copies in its first week. As of the chart dated April 9, 2011, the album has sold 465,797 copies in the US.
